There's economic uncertainty. Immigration challenges. Fears about job security. So many people are quietly carrying heavy things while trying to keep it all together.
Last week, after a long and stressful day, I wrapped up work and was ready to relax with my family. At that moment, I was told about a leaky pipe in the kitchen. Instead of winding down, I ended up cleaning water off the floor.
That night, I took some time to reflect. Even in the middle of that mess, I found some perspective. We were still okay. We had two healthy, thriving children. We could afford to fix the leak. It was a small inconvenience, not a disaster.
I know some people are dealing with much harder things — trying to find a job, keep a visa, or cover next month's rent. That reminder helped me zoom out and refocus on what truly matters.
What keeps you steady is not just your circumstances. It's the foundation you've built within.
I grew up in Nigeria, in a culture where therapy, meditation, and reflection were all considered wishy-washy. Not for people like us. But now, reflection has become one of my most valuable tools. I find it through writing, walking, podcasting, and reading.
One insight that has stayed with me: "The inner work is the real work."
Know who you are. Recognize your purpose and your uniqueness. Remember that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Storms will come. A tree with deep roots stays standing. It bends, but it does not break.
